Summer’s Last Paddle oil on canvas 24x36

I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but gravitated to New England for the hills and history and lobster rolls.

I’ve always been primarily a plein air painter, partly because I love being outside but also because nature has a better imagination than I ever would. Sometimes this means stuffing my paintbox into a backpack to hike through the woods to an unusual vantage point or painting in my kayak when the water is calm or working from the front seat of the car on snowy days. My studio work, on a larger scale, is a continuation of the ideas generated outdoors from sketches, color studies, and photos.

I hold an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Cranbrook Academy of Art and am a member of the Copley Society of Art, Boston.

I live in Lyme, New Hampshire.
